Crafting Digital Products With AI

AI Summit Presentation Recap

From the AI Summit’s stage straight to your inbox: a crash course on the essentials of cutting-edge digital products. Why they’re essential, how to whip them up with AI, and a toolbox that’ll get you started. Let’s crunch those bytes like breakfast cereal, one pixel at a time. 🥣🖥️

AI Generated Summary, with humor

Hey there!

This morning, I presented at an AI Summit put on by my friends over at Rising Impact.

My topic was “How To Create Digital Products Using AI“.

So for today’s newsletter I am just going to give you the Cliff Notes from my presentation.

Ahhh… the sweet sound of content repurposing.

What we will cover today:

  • What… a digital product is.

  • Why… every online business needs one.

  • How… to use AI to create them 10x faster.

I’ll give you:

  • 3 Digital Product Examples 📚

  • 10 Niche Use Cases 🎯

  • 4 Essential Tools 🛠️

  • 1 Simple Workflow 🔁

Enough talk… let’s do this!

What The Heck Is a Digital Product?

Digital products are intangible assets that are distributed electronically.

Think ebooks, online courses, workbooks, etc. They're products you can't touch but still provide immense value. They require no physical storage, have minimal delivery costs, and can be accessed globally.

You can use them to generate leads, increase the value of your services, or as stand-alone revenue generators.

Digital Product Examples

I wouldn’t be genuine if I didn’t have examples of my own!

Here are 3 of my digital products:

Cold Therapy Kit

  • Way back in letter 15, I wrote about the benefits of cold therapy. At the end of that letter, I included a 7-day cold shower challenge which includes 3 different digital products: an Ebook, a PDF walkthrough (with video), and a printable calendar.

  • These products position me as an authority in the cold therapy space and show that I like being poor want to help people (because they are free).

Self Improvement Journals

  • Earlier this month, I started developing these 10-day animal-themed "journey journals".

  • We’ve got 6 of them finished, but the full project isn’t ready for release. I’ll sell or give these away individually, or as a set.

Magical Birthday Presents

  • Here is a more creative example. My son’s 3rd birthday was back in August and I went all out making him a book that is themed around the things that he really likes (dinosaurs, construction equipment).

  • The Magic Excavator was an epic project that my son and I will cherish forever. You can check it out here, if you are into AI-generated dinosaurs!

Okay, now that you have a good handle on what a digital product might look like, let’s get into…

Why Every Online Business Should Offer A Digital Product

Two words: competitive edge.

In this increasingly digital world, being able to quickly deliver your customers high quality, easily digestible information (outside of the confines of social media) gives you a competitive edge over the brands that don’t offer the same.

Here is an example I used in my presentation earlier today:

Let’s say you have two businesses that are offering similar services but one includes a “30 day quickstart guide” for their service with every purchase.

If a customer is on the fence, which business do they go with?

The one that is giving them free stuff.

People love free stuff.

As you saw in the previous examples, digital products come in all shapes and sizes and can be adapted to nearly any business. They are a tool that any business can leverage to get the upper hand in whatever market they are in.

Here are 10 examples off the top of my head:

  1. Beekeeper selling honey? Every customer gets a free e-recipe book delivered to their email

  2. Fitness coach? They can sell a $9 Ebook or video course for the people that can’t afford the 1-1 training.

  3. Yoga Instructor? How about a downloadable meditation guide for those mornings when students can't make it to class?

  4. Independent Coffee Shop? Offer an e-guide on home brewing methods with each bag of beans sold.

  5. Handmade Soap Store? Attach a small e-book on how the soap is made and why specific ingredients were chosen

  6. Podcaster? In exchange for customer email, give a behind-the-scenes e-guide on how they produce and edit their episodes, with a few special outtakes.

  7. Photographer? Perhaps a small digital guide on "10 Quick Tips for Better Smartphone Photos".

  8. Local Plant Shop? Add in a digital care guide tailored to the plants they sell (empowering their customer’s plant addiction).

  9. Piano Teacher? Think about adding downloadable sheet music or even mini video lessons on basic techniques.

  10. Crafting or DIY Blog? Introduce printable project blueprints or templates for avid crafters.

In ALL of these examples, artificial intelligence can help generate digital products.

Let’s talk about how.

How You Can Use AI To Create Digital Products 10X Faster Than Before

The only limit is creativity and effort.

But first, let’s talk about the tools that you are going to need…

Four Tools To Add To Your Toolkit

Second Brain: ChatGPT or Claude

I could spend the whole letter talking about it, but this is going to be your secret weapon for generating EBook content.

I think the optimal approach is to use your own content as a foundation, and then amplify it with ChatGPT.

For example, let’s say you were interviewed on a podcast.

You could take that transcript and then ask ChatGPT to “come up with 10 chapters for an EBook based on the transcript“, and next thing you know you have 10 pretty good chapters to start with.

More details on how to write your prompts at the bottom of this letter.

Art Generation: MidJourney or Dall-E 2

You could just use stock imagery in your digital products, but I am a sucker for consistent, creative images.

Going back to the beekeeping ebook example, wouldn’t these images look nice in an ebook?

They took about 3 minutes to make and sure they have some problems (like bees with backward wings), but with some more back-and-forth prompting, you will have strong image to go alongside your content, all in the exact style that you want.

Design Platform: Canva or Photoshop

You are going to need a way to make everything look like an ebook and the best way to do this is with Canva (it is free but the pro version is only $5/month and worth every penny).

There are templates available that make the process as smooth as silk.

In fact, I created a template that you can start with:

The template is free to download and you can download it on my Gumroad page, which I will discuss next.

Delivery Mechanism: Shopify, Klaviyo, or Gumroad

Alright, once you have your sexy looking ebook, you need a way to get it to your customers. You can just email it to them manually or hand it to them on a flashdrive (I’m kidding), but there is an easier way.

I’ve tried just about everything and the easiest that I have used is Gumroad. You can set up a store, create a listing and have everything ready to roll in about an hour. This isn’t sponsored or anything, I just think it is the best option.

Okay, now we need to put all of this together.

How To Turn An Idea Into A Deliverable

  • Step 1. Conceptualize and organize with ChatGPT

  • Step 2. Generate imagery with MidJourney

  • Step 3. Combine information and refine in Canva

  • Step 4. Deliver to your customers via Gumroad

Now, if you are intimidated by the ebook creation process, I’ve created one final resource that you can use. It outlines the first two steps in painstaking detail and gives you the exact prompts that you will need to rapidly generate ebooks on any topic.

I am calling it my Ebook Generator System.

And it is totally free. 🤝

Sheesh!

Now you have the tools and understanding to create your very own digital products.

One final thought…

Use AI to amplify yourself, increase your output and improve your quality.

The digital realm is riddled with lackluster content; don't just add to the noise. When you put your name or brand on something, it is a reflection of you. If you put your name on a crappy product, what does that make you?

Go make something you are proud of.

And remember, the only limit is your creativity and your effort.

All the best,

Cliff
