Non-Negotiable Habits

Three Habits That Are Keeping Me Sharp While I'm Traveling

Hey there,

As you know, I've been galavanting across the island of Luzon for the past 2 months.

During this time, my routine has certainly been put to the test.

But despite how unpredictable things can be, there are three habits that ALWAYS happen.

Let’s get into them!

1. Daily Journal

Every morning, I open up my laptop, set an 11 minute timer and just start writing. I just try to empty my mind. Sometimes I talk about what happened the previous day. Sometimes I'll describe a big idea that I've come up with. Sometimes I'll point out mistakes that I am making and I'll work through the best course of action. I've been doing this for 3 years.

It has given me more mental clarity.

It is making me into a better writer.

But most importantly…

I am documenting my life.

I am cataloging my experiences.

I am tracking my emotions.

I know that years from now, I will cherish my journal entries from this period of my life.

Which is why no matter what I have going on, I always make time to write in my journal.

2. Morning Walk

Walking out in nature is therapy for your mind, body, and soul. This is one of those habits that I don't need to sell you. If you give it a chance, it will sell itself. We are meant to walk.

Fish swim. Birds fly. Humans walk.

Each morning, around sunrise, I go outside and walk for at least 10 minutes. Sometimes It will just be a short walk, but other times, it will go on for much longer, as I explore the environment and my mind.

Through my morning walks, I've wandered through parts of the Philippines that no tourist would ever visit, and as a result, I've been exposed to culturally rich experiences that I'll cherish forever. I wish I could show you a fraction of the fascinating things that I’ve been able to see during my morning walks. But I can’t.

So here is a picture from one of my morning walks a couple of weeks ago:

Baguio was such a vibe.

3. Intermittent Fasting

If I were to rank the habits that contribute to staying lean year-round, intermittent fasting would be at the very top of the list.

I don't eat breakfast, and sometimes I don't eat lunch, either.

It is great for keeping my body fat down and even better for my cognitive focus.

You'd be surprised how much brain-power you free up when you spend less time thinking about food.

There you have it! These three habits have been keeping me sharp, while I travel through the Philippines.

If you aren't doing any of these habits yet, then start with the daily morning walks.

Enjoy!
